About hair restoration

Hair transplant in Palo Alto allows you to add your natural hair to a thinning or balding area of the scalp. There are two main types of hair restoration: nonsurgical and surgical.

Nonsurgical hair restoration

Nonsurgical hair restoration involves the use of medical devices to stimulate hair growth. This can be performed with low-level laser therapy, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy, microneedling, and medications.

Surgical hair restoration

Surgical hair restoration involves the transplantation of hair follicles from one area of the scalp to another. This is typically done using the FUT or FUE method. Hair restoration can significantly improve the appearance of thinning hair, boosting your confidence and self-esteem.

What sets OG Aesthetics apart when it comes to hair restoration?

At our practice, we are very hands-on when it comes to hair transplants. In many other practices, the surgeon simply designs the hairline. Our surgeons participate in the case at every phase of the enhancement, creating each recipient site by hand for a stunningly natural outcome. We are also trained in the latest and most cutting-edge techniques, including follicular unit extraction (FUE).

Our cosmetic surgeons will be the ones performing your hair transplant in San Jose (as opposed to other providers currently performing hair restoration surgery, such as internists, emergency room physicians, or dermatologists). With a highly trained eye and aesthetic for creating natural hair restoration, this results in a look that appears to be created by nature. Contact us today to learn more about our approach to hair transplants and how we can help you achieve your desired look.

About FUE, advanced hair transplant technology

One of the latest cutting-edge hair transplant procedures is called Follicular Unit Extraction or FUE. This is a minimally invasive outpatient procedure that can be used to treat both male and female pattern baldness. The advantage of FUE over other hair transplant procedures is that it causes minimal donor site trauma and results in the most natural-looking hair growth. During the procedure, your surgeon extracts individual follicular units from the donor site and transplants them into the recipient site. In most cases, the procedure can be completed in one day, with long-lasting results achieved in six to twelve months.

More on hair restoration

Hair transplant surgery has come a long way in recent years, and it is now possible to achieve very natural-looking results. For those who are not candidates for surgery or who prefer a non-invasive option, there are also medications and topical treatments to stimulate hair growth and slow the progression of hair loss. Whatever treatment you choose, when under the care of our board-certified plastic surgeons, we can help to restore your hairline and your self-confidence.

What hair restoration techniques are used for hair restoration at OG Aesthetics?

Follicular Unit Extraction

At our clinic, we pride ourselves on staying at the cutting edge of hair transplantation technology. We offer follicular unit extraction (FUE) as our preferred method of hair transplantation. This technique involves individually removing each follicular unit from the donor site with a specialized instrument. This allows us to create each implant site by hand, ensuring that the angularity and depth are perfect for each graft. This technique requires a tremendous amount of knowledge, skill, and time, but it ensures that the result is stunningly natural hair restoration.

Strip Method

We also perform the strip method (a more traditional technique). This method has many benefits over FUE for certain individuals.

Some of these benefits include the ability to harvest a higher number of donor grafts per transplant session, and the fact that there is no need to shave the head. For that reason, we offer both FUE and the strip method at our clinic, so that our patients can choose the option that is right for them.

What is the recovery from hair restoration?

A hat can be worn on the third day following hair transplant surgery to help conceal the healing scalp. Most people can return to work in a matter of days, depending on their occupation. The transplanted hairs start appearing at six months, with the full results developing over the course of a year.

Will I require any follow up visits?

Follow-up appointments are scheduled at one week, three weeks, six months, and 12 months after the initial surgery, with further appointments as needed. During these follow-up appointments, our surgeon will evaluate the progress of the hair growth and ensure healing is proceeding well. You will be advised on how to care for the transplanted area and given instructions on avoiding activities that could cause damage to the hair follicles as they become viable in their new location.
