The goal of otoplasty is to enhance aesthetic balance by correcting imperfections or irregularities and pinning the ears closer to the scalp.

About ear surgery

Ear surgery is a procedure to improve the appearance of the ears. It can be used to correct a wide range of problems, including ear deformities, protruding ears, and oversized or misshapen ears. There are various techniques that can be used during otoplasty, depending on the specific abnormality.

Ear reconstruction

Our plastic surgeon can address imbalances by removing or adding cartilage to the ears for a more harmonious, aesthetically pleasing outcome.

Ear pinning

In some cases, the ears may protrude from the side of the head. In this instance, the cartilage will be secured with sutures into a new position so that the ears better frame the face. The incision is generally placed within the natural fold behind the ear, so scarring is not an issue.

Ear surgery is generally a low-risk procedure with a high success rate. If you are considering this type of surgery, it is important to consult with a qualified surgeon to discuss your options and determine the best course of action for you.

How is ear surgery performed?

Otoplasty is typically performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient procedure. The surgeon will make incisions in the back of the ear to expose the cartilage. The cartilage will then be sculpted into the desired shape and position. In some cases, the surgeon may also need to remove excess skin. Finally, the incisions will be closed with sutures. The results of otoplasty last a lifetime.

What is the recovery from ear surgery?

The recovery from ear surgery will vary depending on the type of procedure that was performed. In general, however, most people can return to their normal activities within a week or two after surgery. During this time, it is important to avoid strenuous activity and exposure to water, as this can increase the risk of infection.

It is also important to follow any instructions from your surgeon regarding wound care and pain management. With proper care, most can make a full recovery from ear surgery with very minimal discomfort.
